ReCII - A Club Built for the Future of Rotary

Editors Note:
In March 2025, I invited the Board members of the newly founded
Rotary eClub Ibiza International (ReCII) to reflect on their experiences during this inaugural year. It is a privilege to begin this series with the insights and reflections of Denise Klischan, our President.

ReCII - A Club Built for the Future of Rotary

Denise Klischan - President

I’m sitting here reflecting on the journey of Rotary eClub Ibiza International (ReCII), and I can’t help but feel sense of happiness. What started as an idea has evolved into a flourishing, dynamic community - one that embodies the very best of what Rotary stands for.

From the outset, our goal was to create something special: a club that reflects the open-minded, diverse spirit of Ibiza while tackling real-world challenges through Rotary’s mission. Less than a year in, we’re already making waves, proving that Rotary isn’t just about tradition - it’s about evolution.

Building Community, Strengthening Economies

One of the projects that truly resonates with me is our Professional Networking Event, "Ibiza Professionals."
Too often, community economic development - one of Rotary’s seven areas of focus - is overlooked in our part of the world. But this event changes that.

Bringing together professionals from different industries, the event provides a platform for connection, growth, and collaboration. It’s more than about business; it’s about creating opportunities - helping individuals prosper, innovate, and build lasting partnerships. This initiative enhances visibility for ReCII and sets the stage for future endeavors.

Deborah Sass (ReCII Secretary, and a Founding Member), and her organisation team, who spearheaded this effort, did an outstanding job, and I can’t wait to see how future editions unfold. This is just the beginning of something that will have a lasting impact, more than for our members but for the broader Ibiza community.

Diversity as Our Strength

The beauty of ReCII lies in its people. That became strikingly clear during two unforgettable moments: our summer party in September and our official inauguration in November.

Looking around, I saw the incredible diversity we’ve cultivated - 16 different cultural backgrounds, an age range from 35 to 75, and professions spanning from lawyers and real estate agents to circus acrobats, captains, AI specialists, and space entrepreneurs. We are LGBTQ+ inclusive, and, interestingly, we have more women than men! (Although, yes, we do need more men!)

This club is a reflection of Ibiza itself - vibrant, open-minded, and filled with unique, driven individuals. Rotary International should be proud of what we’ve built because this is the future of Rotary.

Beyond numbers and titles, what stands out most is the sense of connection. Every member brings something valuable, and together, we inspire each other to grow, learn, and make a difference.

The Magic of Rotary Lives in Action

As founding president, my role has been to bring this club to life - to encourage engagement, answer endless questions, and keep everything running. Has it been a lot of work? Absolutely. But every moment, every late-night message, every event planned has been worth it.

The challenge now is to keep that energy and momentum alive. It’s easy to be excited in the early days, but sustaining that passion requires commitment. That’s why our next priorities are clear:

  • Bring our projects to fruition.

  • Keep our members engaged and energized.

  • Grow our club with the right people - those who share our vision and values.

And for those considering leadership in a new Rotary club?
Go for it. It will change you in ways you never imagined.
The lessons you learn, the people you meet, the impact you make - it’s all worth it.

ReCII is a force for good, and a model for what Rotary can become.

So, if you ever doubted whether one club can make a difference, look at us.

Because we already do.
